Which rain do you embrace now?

You used to come back home, carrying the scent of rain and earth.

A traveler of wet streets, slipping through doorways,
bringing the storm’s remnants in your wake.

Which wet pavement made you choose to stay outside?
I remember how you shook the rain off,
how the cold clung to you,
how petrichor wove itself into the air around us,
turning our home into a place that smelled of distant skies.

Which downpour collapsed onto you?
Does the rain feel different in every place?
The drizzle by the neighbor’s porch, the storm beyond our balcony—
I never understood the difference until now.
Because now I stand beneath the same sky,
and yet, the rain never feels the same.

Which rain do you embrace now?
Is it the gentle drizzle that once kissed your head,
or something colder, heavier—
something that carried you too far to return?

Wherever you are,
when the rain finds you again,
I hope it still reminds you
of the warmth you once carried home.

This piece is dedicated to my best friend—my bravest companion through the storms, the keeper of my lowest moments, and the warmth in my loneliest days. My forever baby.

Rest in peace, my love—Mojo Jojo.
